Our day at the zoo

Saturday was a beautiful day to go to the zoo - a sunny clear blue sky and a brisk wind that kept it from being too hot. In the car I was singing the Peter Paul & Mary song, "We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo; how about you, you, you...", and she kept talking about all the animals she was going to see.

The first animals we came upon were the giraffes. She was interested, but a little intimidated. She didn't want to feed them, but she sat in Daddy's arms and watched while he fed them.



Hannah most enjoyed the merry-go-round. I got on with her and held her on the horse. After our ride was over, she wanted to go again. When I told her it was the other kids' turn now, she whined a little and said, "Hannah turn? Hannah ride horsey again?" until we distracted her with the tiger exhibit.







Luckily we had brought Hannah's stroller, because the zoo is built into the side of a mountain, and the roads are very steep. We didn't know it when we made the plan to go to the zoo, but Saturday was Military Appreciation Day at the zoo, so it was crowded. We were glad we got up early and spent the morning at the zoo, because when we left around 12:30, there were long lines to get in, and a line of cars snaked down the hill on the way to the zoo.

After the zoo we went out to lunch in one of our favorite restaurants, the Loop in Manitou Springs. Hannah was asleep in her stroller when we got to the Loop, and we thought we might be able to have lunch while she napped, but she woke up when the waitress came to take our order. But she was well-behaved and we had a good time at lunch.
