We got back from Florida yesterday, so Hannah and I are having a lazy day to recuperate from our vacation. We had a great time. Disney World was great, but it was almost overwhelming - there is so much to do and see. Hannah loved the Magic Kingdom best. She says her favorite part was the Dumbo ride. (Of course, she could just as easily said the Magic Carpet ride or the Dinosaur ride because they're the same ride with different styles to the seats.) She was so excited to see the princesses, too.
It was pretty hot, and very crowded. I don't think June is the best time to do to Disney World if you can help it. Luckily, Lindsey rented a wheelchair for me so that I wouldn't have to walk everywhere. My MS doesn't do so well with the heat, let alone walking all day! Hannah mostly sat in my lap in the wheelchair so she didn't get too tired out either. When she did walk with the rest of them, she wanted to hold "Aunt Kaffy's" hand every time. Kathy and Janet have been having a friendly competition for the title of "favorite aunt", and I think that Kathy sending Hannah a sheet or two of Disney stickers every week must have done the trick! She didn't even want to hold Daddy's hand - ungrateful kid! And after all Lindsey does for her, too!
We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside, which was a nice hotel. The room was comfortable, but nothing special. It had beautiful grounds, a "river", really nice pools, and fragrant gardenias blooming right by the walkway. We had adjoining rooms so Hannah could go see her aunties anytime when we were in the rooms.
One evening Uncle John and her aunties took care of her so Lindsey and I could enjoy the "scary" rides at the parks. We went to Disney MGM Studios and rode the Twilight Zone ride and the Rock and Roller Coaster. They were both fun, but we must have ridden the Twilight Zone ride four times in a row. It was fun, just like we were kids. We went to EPCOT and walked around all the little "villages" of different countries. It had cooled off my that time, so it was pleasant to sit outside and eat Moroccan food, just the two of us.
Another evening, in the middle of a downpour, we went to EPCOT again, this time with Hannah, and rode "Soarin'". It's a film of a ride over California, where you ride in these special seats, and it feels like you're hang gliding over California. It's very realistic; you can smell oranges when you fly over orange groves, and you lift your feet when you're flying over trees so you won't hit them. They said the wait was 2 hours but we got in probably in under a half hour, and the wait was all indoors. I think Disney over-estimates the wait time on purpose so that people are pleasantly surprised when the wait isn't so long after all!
