Most days I go through my life without noticing things. Really important things, like how Hannah is growing and developing. I always promise myself I won't sleepwalk my way through Hannah's childhood, but I think we all do it. Today I "suddenly" noticed how much Hannah is talking. She is growing in so many ways.
Hannah and I were out at lunch with my friend Beth. Hannah was trying to reach the coffee service that was right behind our booth. Beth told her, "Be careful, Hannah, that's hot." Hannah replied solemnly, "Hot! Coffee! Mama - coffee." I said, "Mama drinks coffee, right." Beth asked her if Daddy drinks coffee. I answered, "Tea." Then Hannah said her first three word sentence, with a subject, verb and object: "Daddy drink tea." Beth and I both laughed and applauded her. Maybe I'm just a proud Mommy, but she made up that sentence, she wasn't just repeating what I had said. I just said, "Tea", and she made up the sentence about Daddy drinking tea.
We bought her a potty last week. It plays a little fanfare when she sits on it, and when she actually produces something. Of course, she is still just practicing sitting on it. She is pretty good about telling me when her diaper needs to be changed. Sometimes she just takes off her diaper and brings it to me, saying, "Wet - diaper." I don't blame her. Who would want to hang out in a wet diaper. I just didn't want to start the training until after the wedding was over, because I wanted her life to get back to normal first. I want her potty trained but in a way, it's easier that she wears a diaper. Once she's potty trained I will be forever scouting out bathrooms when we're out somewhere.
