This Friday is Moon Festival, or Mid-Autumn Festival in China. It's a holiday that families traditionally share together (sort of like American Thanksgiving), and if families or loved ones are apart, they are supposed to look at the full moon and remember that they are all looking at the same moon in the sky. They also eat moon cakes, which are NOT the same thing as Moon Pies!
At Chinese school last week, Hannah and I colored a picture of the full moon and learned about Moon Festival. I tried to take a picture of Hannah with her project from class, but she refused to "pose" nicely. She wanted to walk around in my shoes, so I got a picture of her after she "all fall down".
More Hannah-isms:
- She will call to us if were are in another room, "Whatcha doin', Mama?" or "Whatcha doin', Daddy?" But if we actually tell her what we are doing, she just repeats her question. Like a parrot.
- For a while she was pronouncing "delicious", "dish-a-lish-us"! Unfortunately, she has started pronouncing it correctly.
- She will look at me as if she has just noticed I'm there and say, "Oh, Hi, Mommy!"
- The other day she said her first 5 word sentence: "There's rice on my book!" (We were looking at catalogs as we finished dinner.)
Also, another big milestone: yesterday she peed in her potty for the first time. She was so excited when she realized what she had done, she jumped up and down and clapped her hands. And today she did it again. I put her on the potty in the morning, after meals, before bed and when I change her diaper. She usually just played on the potty, putting her hand in the pot so it would play the "fanfare" it's supposed to play when she pees or poops.
