Our plans to spend Christmas in Kentucky were nearly foiled by the Colorado blizzard of December 06. (Well, the first blizzard. More on the second blizzard later!)Lindsey had Court in the morning of Tuesday, 12/19, so we planned to leave as soon as he got out of Court. We wanted to leave as early as possible to stay ahead of the promised snowstorm. So, of course, the judge just had to take Lindsey's case last and take a long time to hear the case. We finally got out of town at nearly 5 pm, and there was already a sleety snow falling. We drove to Colby, Kansas the first night. It's a good thing we left when we did because that night they closed I-70 west of the Colorado border, and even into Kansas. We would never have gotten out of Colorado if we had left any later than we did.
Along the way, we stopped at a Wal-Mart and picked up a DVD player for Hannah, the kind you can strap on the back of the front headrest. So now instead of hearing Hannah ask me to hold her every few minutes, or asking for different music, she got to watch "Dumbo" and "Aladdin" a few dozen times! I'm really sick of both shows, especially the soundtracks, which is all I could hear from the front seat. But at least it helped her pass the time, although she really is pretty good in the car. Except that, by the time she gets really tired, she starts yelling, "I'm stuck! I'm stuck!" as she tries to get her seatbelt unbuckled and get out of her car seat.
We stopped in Indianapolis to meet Lindsey's brother and his wife for dinner. Then we drove the last leg into the Cincinnati area. The last leg of the trip always seems like the longest, but we finally made it to Mom's condo and went to bed right away, because it was after 11 pm.
Everyone really spoiled Hannah for Christmas, of course. We celebrated the last night of Hannukah with Mom and Janet. Then a few days later we celebrated Christmas for the first time with Hannah. I hope the kid doesn't turn out to be really confused because of it all. We gave Hannah a "Bice-ko" (bicycle -really a tricycle) for Hannukah, which she has been asking for, for months. Mom gave her a set of wooden blocks for Hannukah, which she LOVED and played with the whole time we were there. Hannah also got a red Minnie Mouse "dancing dress" from Aunt Janet that she would be perfectly happy to wear every day. Clothes, clothes, clothes, of course, and little toys...she loved it!
After a long weekend, we had the trip back to Colorado to look forward to. It went pretty well, and we actually didn't hit snow until we were just about home...the second blizzard of December 2006!
